Having taken around £26 million at the Box Office, ‘The Inbetweeners Movie‘ seems likely to return to the silver screen for a second installment.
Film producers have hinted that the next one will be based upon Neil Sutherland‘s wedding, and one source has told the Daily Mirror that “the success has been too big to ignore and it makes perfect sense to give the fans what they want. It would be much more viable than making an extra series because the characters have moved on, so that’s what we’re doing.”
Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, Blake Harrison and James Buckley shall reunite post-uni for Neil‘s sh(t)ag party and wedding.
Before the first film was released, Bird seemed reluctant to confirm plans for a sequel: “I don’t think anyone’s thinking of a sequel yet – that only becomes a viable option if the first one is a smash hit so we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”
Blake Harrison (Neil) tweeted today: “I know nothing about a 2nd Inbetweeners film. I wouldn’t believe everything you read… except Star Wars novels… they really happened.”
£26 million? I think that qualifies as a smash hit somehow!
