Gwen Stefani has been interviewed by Jonathan Van Meter for the January 2013 edition of ‘Vogue‘ magazine about never having to grow up, and the responsibilities that motherhood entails.
“I’ve never had to grow up in a way. When you think about it, we were in college together, and then we made our first record, and then we just took off and stayed in this bubble. Time kind of stops when you’re in a band. It’s this suspended childhood, and it’s really awesome, that part of it. But then when you have a family of your own, it forces you to go into the adult world a little bit more.”
“I did my first solo record and went on tour while I was pregnant. I would want to throw up during certain songs. Certain outfits would make me sick. It was torture. I toured until I was 4.5 months pregnant, showing. I came home and had Kingston, and when he was 8 months old, I went back on the road. I nursed him for 14 months, so I would literally do my hair and makeup, go back to the bus, nurse him, put him down, and walk out onstage. And I did that for 100 shows. I did the solo thing, but I felt like I was trying to play a character in a way, this ‘Alice in Wonderland‘ pretend version of myself. But this, being in ‘No Doubt‘, is really who I am.”
Lady Gaga bought a piece of history earlier this month when she purchased 55 collector’s pieces from Michael Jackson‘s estate at a Beverly Hills auction. The quirky (yet fantastic) singer’s purchases included the original ‘Bad‘ jacket and a crystal glove, which she can be seen wearing in the accompanying photo, along with her number 462 bidding paddle.
Gaga wrote on Twitter after the fund-raising event: “The 55 pieces I collected today will be archived & expertly cared for in the spirit & love of Michael Jackson, his bravery, & fans worldwide. Study the greats and become greater.”
Brandon Blackstock proposed to girlfriend Kelly Clarkson over the weekend after a year of dating. In a special announcement on her Facebook page, the popstar wrote: “I’M ENGAGED! I wanted y’all to know!! Happiest night of my life last night! I am so lucky and am with the greatest man ever. Everyone has been asking about my engagement ring, so here it is 🙂 It’s a yellow canary diamond with diamonds around it and Brandon designed it with Johnathon Arndt! They did an amazing job! I can’t wait to make Brandon‘s ring with Johnathon as well!”
It is widely believed that hugely successful Latino singer Jenni Rivera was killed by a plane crash on Sunday. Officials lost track of the aircraft (which was headed to Mexico City) mere minutes after it departed from the runway, and the plane nose-dived, causing a catastrophic impact.
The 43-year-old mother of 5 boarded the flight with her 6-piece entourage, who are partly visible in the following photo, the last of her to ever be taken. Police have not yet recovered a body from the scene, but have found a dress worn by the singer onstage, her driver’s license, and a pair of her heels, so her chances of survival are looking very slim.
Fellow celebrity tweeter Eva Longoria wrote her condolences to the singer’s family online: “My heart breaks for the loss of Jenni Rivera & everyone on the plane. My prayers go out to her family. We lost a legend today.” J Lo also added: “So sad! Praying for Jenni Rivera‘s children and family and the passengers families. Que dios los bendigan!! Descansen en paz.”
As a student magazine purchasing it quite a rarity for me, but tonight I couldn’t resist picking up a copy of Taylor Swift‘s January cover of ‘Cosmopolitan‘. In it she dishes on her boyfriend requirements, and making the same mistake twice:
“I really don’t have any rules about dating when it comes to height, age, career choice, anything like that. It doesn’t matter. It’s really more about strength of character. When it comes to age I’ve been all over the map!”
“I think that idea of love I hope for is that you learn a lesson and you don’t have to learn it twice. But the song ‘I Knew You Were Trouble‘ is about when I knowingly made the same mistake twice. I couldn’t resist it – there’s that temptation to push yourself into a risky situation with someone who is going to hurt you, and that’s what that song is about: not trusting your own instincts and ignoring all the red flags.”
Reality Queen Kim Kardashian‘s adorable Persian kitten, a present from boyfriend Kanye West, has died out of the blue from a mysterious illness. After realising that she was allergic to the cutie recently, she passed her on to sister Khloé‘s assistant, Sydney Hitchcock.
Kim blogged over the weekend: “It is with deep sadness that I have to tell you all that my kitten, Mercy, has passed away. My heart is completely broken. When I first got Mercy, I had never lived with a cat before and so I had no idea that I was allergic. I thought that it might pass, but after a few weeks I decided to go visit two separate allergists, one of whom said my allergies wouldn’t get any better unless I started taking injections. I had fallen SO in love with Mercy that I wanted to try everything I could to keep her, but I didn’t think it was safe to resort to injections, and it wasn’t fair on Mercy, because I couldn’t play with her or give her as much attention as I wanted to. Mercy deserved a mom who could really give her the time and affection she deserved. I knew that Sydney, Khloé’s assistant, who had recently lost a cat she had loved and cared for for 17 years, would be the perfect mom for Mercy and Sydney was so excited to have Mercy as her own!”
“Sydney gave Mercy a loving home, but after a couple of weeks Mercy got really sick and Sydney had to rush her to the vet. They discovered she had a stomach problem that we weren’t aware of. Her stomach had filled with fluid and the doctor said she had a rare stomach cancer and that there was nothing we could do for her. Poor little Mercy died the very next day. It broke not only my heart that little Mercy died at only 4 months old, but Sydney’s too. Mercy was a gentle and loving kitten and we are all going to miss her so much. Thanks to Sydney for making Mercy’s short life one filled with love. RIP Mercy.”
24-year-old ‘X Factor‘ contestant James Arthur won the popular reality TV show last night, beating off tough competition in the shape of Jahmene Douglas, who praised his rival with the words: “It’s such a blessing to even share a stage with such a talent, he’s my idol.”
He performed 2 songs during the final- ‘Let’s Get It On’ by Marvin Gaye, and Shontelle’s ‘Impossible‘.
