Bridget Jones creator/ legend Helen Fielding has made fans of the series aware that she’s writing a follow up book for a while now, but until now a release date and title for the new work has not been given. The third (and quite possibly final) installment in the hi (wait for it) larious series is titled ‘Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy‘, and is scheduled for release October 10.
Anyone that know me well will know I’m occasionally referred to as ‘Bridget‘ by friends and family- I don’t think I’ve ever come across a character, aside from Carrie Bradshaw, that reminds me more of myself. This release date feels like years away- roll on October!
When the author was asked if Bridget was still mad on Mark Darcy, she simply raised an eyebrow at her publishers. Given that Bridget was 32 when the first novel was published 15 years ago, she would be fast approaching her 50s in a present day setting. The only other details provided so far is the following tiny extract: “You see, this is the trouble with the modern world. If it was the days of letter-writing, I would never even have started to find his address, a pen, a piece of paper, an envelope, a stamp and gone outside at 11.30pm to find a postbox. A text is gone at the brush of a fingertip, like a nuclear bomb or Exocet missile. Dating Rule No. 1: Do not text when drunk.”
