My new girl crush (not looks-wise as such, more personality-wise), is ‘Hunger Games‘ actress Jennifer Lawrence, or ‘J-Law‘ as I now like to call her. As if ordering McDonald‘s on the ‘Academy Awards‘ red carpet and then tripping up the steps to receive said statue wasn’t bad enough, she’s well and truly out-done herself now by getting caught smoking what appears to be weed mere days later!
She is currently filming the sequel to the franchise in Hawaii, but in her downtime has also managed to drink vast quantities of red wine, and smoke suspicious-looking cigarettes with a female companion on her hotel balcony (we all know she’s really puffing the green stuff! That ain’t no tobacco…) She’s a role model to all! 😉
‘Oscar‘ nominated actor and star of ‘The Green Mile‘, Michael Clarke Duncan, died yesterday just 2 after receiving treatment for his July heart attack. His fiancée Omarosa Manigault confirmed that he died in the morning at the ‘Cedars-Sinai Medical Center‘ in LA.
The actor’s publicist Joy Fehily released a short statement: “Michael suffered a myocardial infarction on July 13 and never fully recovered. Manigault is grateful for all of your prayers and asks for privacy at this time. Celebrations of his life, both private and public, will be announced at a later date.”
A shortlist of this year’s Oscar (Academy Award) nominees is in, and I’m guessing that several of Hollywood‘s leading actors and actresses will be feeling quite smug right about now.
Up for the ‘Best Actress‘ award is obvious winner Meryl Streep (‘The Iron Lady‘), Glenn Close (‘Albert Nobbs‘), Viola Davis (‘The Help‘), Rooney Mara (‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo‘), and Michelle Williams (‘My Week with Marylin‘).
The nominees for the ‘Best Supporting Actress‘ category include the hilarious Melissa McCarthy (‘Bridesmaids‘), Octavia Spencer (‘The Help‘), Berenice Bejo (‘The Artist‘), Jessica Chastain (‘The Help‘), and Janet McTeer (‘Albert Nobbs.’)
Battling it out for ‘Best Actor‘ are: George Clooney (‘The Descendants‘), Brad Pitt (‘Moneyball‘), Jean Dujardin (‘The Artist‘), Damian Bichir (‘A Better Life‘) and Gary Oldman (‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy‘).
“I am honored to be in company with such beautiful artists, and touched deeply by my fellow actors for their generosity in giving me this acknowledgment,” said Meryl Streep.
Brad Pitt wrote: “This is an extraordinary honor. I am dizzy with joy… and caffeine. Considering both films, ‘Moneyball‘ and ‘The Tree of Life,’ nearly didn’t make it to the screen, this is especially sweet. And I’d like to thank all the artisans and craftsmen who gave their best to each film. I am especially over the moon for Jonah (and the other ‘Moneyballers‘ acknowledged today), Terry Malick and the tribute this is to Billy Beane and the Oakland A’s organization. My congratulations to all the nominees…pancakes for everyone.”
So it’s looking like ‘The Help‘ and ‘War Horse‘ are the front-runners for the awards!
This year’s Oscars ceremony was hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco Sunday night. Anne wore an astonishing EIGHT different dresses throughout the evening, and has been well received as a host generally. Congrats are in order for Colin Firth, who won the ‘Best Actor’ Oscar for ‘The King’s Speech’, Natalie Portman, ‘Best Actress’ for Black Swan. Have a look through the gallery of the best looks of the night…
Possibly my favourite look of the evening (Mila Kunis)
The star of the new highly-anticipated ‘Scream 4’ movie, Emma Roberts, has got herself a new man in the form of ‘Gossip Girl’ actor Chase Crawford. The two spent the evening laughing and smoking together at Elton John’s Oscars 2011 party, with onlookers saying the two ‘looked very cosy’, and they left the party holding hands. Aw, I think they make a very cute couple actually!
