One of the things I love most about Cardiff University is being involved in Student Media. As an aspiring fashion assistant/ journalist/ TV presenter/ radio presenter (yeah, there’s still a bit of work to do on deciding there), I make the most of every opportunity offered to me here. One of my main focuses is our TV station, ‘CUTV‘, which I guess you could say I’ve gotten a little obsessed with.
Last Saturday night myself and other students from our culture magazine ‘Quench‘, radio station ‘Xpress‘, and newspaper ‘Gair Rhydd‘, went along to a rather swanky bash at the Hilton to celebrate our various achievements. Former ‘T4‘ presenter Rick Edwards and Olympic Silver medalist Iwan Thomas fronted the gig, and provided plenty of crude jokes to the teenage crowd. Cheeky Iwan actually ended up nicking some of our wine at the table when his neighbours had polished off their lot!
Towards the end of last year my friend Helen Griffiths and I began to get involved with ‘Fresh‘, a culture-based show, on which we presented our own fashion segment. As the show’s creator was unable to collect the award himself, we were ushered onstage to collect the award for ‘Best Show‘, where I managed to make a complete tit out of myself by ‘doing a Jennifer Lawrence‘ by tripping slightly, albeit down the stairs (in heels, natch, followed by a quick recovery).
Special awards were presented to my incredibly hard-working friends, including my date for the night (hehe), Huw Ware (aka Mr Best Personality), and the big winner of the night was the talented Mike ‘OCD’. Kayleigh Chan and Helen Griffiths were awarded the roles of Head and Deputy Controllers, succeeding the fabulous Sophie Gregory.
Fashion-wise, out of my entire ensemble, nothing was very new. The smoke-effect bodycon dress I wore was a ‘Kardashian Kollection for Dorothy Perkins‘ bargain at just £20 back in the January sales, which I paired with the obligatory black heels- student scrimping at its finest!
